There are so many exciting things to do in the Florida Everglades! Do you want to kayak next to manatees, watch exotic birds, hold an alligator, and have an exhilarating ride on an airboat through the mangroves?! Keep reading to find out more about Florida Everglades National Park, Airboat Tours, and Wooten’s Animal Sanctuary.
Florida Everglades National Park
There are three entrances to the Florida Everglades National Park and each encompasses different areas. Each area has a variety of activities offered. You can explore the Anhinga Trail, kayak the Florida Bay, climb Shark Valley’s observation Tower, bike through the mangroves, go camping and more. If you are interested in a venture into the wilderness check out the Florida Everglades National Park website. On their website, you can get maps, important details, safety information, and even an itinerary for your trip.
Gliding through the wetlands on an Everglades Airboat Tour
The best way to see the Florida Everglades is by gliding along the water on an airboat. There are many airboat tours available in the Florida Everglades. I chose City Airboat Tours because of their great reviews. The tour was one hour long and was narrated. If you would like to learn more about my experience on City Airboat Tours click here.
Playing with alligators at Wooten’s Animal Sanctuary
OK so maybe you won’t exactly be “playing” with alligators but you will get to hold a baby one! Pretty cool, right? If you are scared at just the thought be reassured that the mouth has a guard so you won’t get bitten. Not interested, don’t worry you can still enjoy other things at the animal sanctuary. Find out what else there is to do at Wooten’s!
At Wooten’s animal sanctuary you can see panthers, tigers, snakes, otters, and over 100 alligators. I spent about two hours walking around the sanctuary, watching an alligator show and snapping a picture with the baby alligator.
I would highly recommend Wooten’s if you are visiting with children. They will love watching the otter play on the slide, see rare Siberian tigers, and hundreds of alligators. You can also choose to do your airboat ride at Wooten’s, then visit the sanctuary before or after your tour.
The live alligator show is really entertaining and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The free show is included with your entry ticket.
At Wooten’s every airboat and swamp buggy tour comes with free admission to the animal sanctuary. So If you are interested in the animal sanctuary I would take the airboat tour they offer to save money.
Where to eat
After a day of exploring the Everglades, you are sure to be hungry! I had lunch at City Seafood Market. They have a variety of delicious fried seafood, including crab, frog legs, and alligator. City Seafood has outdoor seating on the water with a great view.
*Make sure you come prepared for the Everglades. You will need sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, and a hat.
I hope you enjoy your trip to the Florida Everglades. If you have any additional questions or want to share your experience comment below!
